Introduction: |
Human beings and chimpanzees have
coexisted for millions of years and share more than 98 percent
of their genetic material. Chimpanzees are our closest relatives.
By observing chimpanzees, we can learn about the origins of
our own behavior. |
|
Observe and Record: |
|
View video clips of wild chimpanzees
at Gombe in Tanzania and make field observations. Pretend you’re
looking through Jane Goodall’s binoculars in 1960. For
the first time, you are observing wild chimpanzees at close
range. What do you observe? What questions do you have? (Don’t
look at the researcher notes until later.) |
|
|
-
- View the video clips of chimps again and add to your previously
recorded observations. Did you notice anything new or different?
Now read the field notes about these chimps written by Gombe
videographer Bill
Wallauer.
- Give oral presentation summarizing mini research project.
