Just as humans bounce back from life’s
difficulties, nature must often recover from major events. The
natural world has already recovered from five major extinctions,
resulting in sizeable losses of life on our planet. We are living
in what many scientists call the Sixth Extinction. While the
first five extinctions were caused by physical catastrophic
events, the Sixth Extinction is unique in that it is being caused
mostly by humans.
Many different factors contribute to the loss of biodiversity
and extinctions. Scientists use the acronym HIPPO to describe
these factors. Click
