Unit One: Mentors

Arrow Purpose of Mentors Activity:
To identify your past and possibly future mentors and add them to your tree if you have not already included them.
Arrow What is a Mentor?
1. Define the word mentor. (Enter the word mentor into the dictionary text field.)
2.

Take this quiz:

  • Name the three wealthiest people in the world.
  • Name the last three Heismen trophy winners.
  • Name three members of the US Women’s National Soccer Team.
  • Name three winners of the Nobel Prize or Pulitzer Prize.
  • Name last year's Academy Award winner for best actress.
  • Name three US vice presidents.

How did you do? The point is, few of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These people were best in their fields, but applause fades away, awards tarnish, and achievements are forgotten.

3.

Take this quiz:

  • List teachers who have aided your journey through school.
  • Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
  • Name three people who have taught you something worthwhile.
  • Name a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
  • Think of three people with whom you enjoy spending time.
  • Name one or two heroes whose stories have inspired you.

Was this quiz easier? The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones who care about you. Some of these people may also be your mentors.

4. Learn about Dr. Jane’s mentors in her scrapbook.

7.

Now, or in the future, you may identify the need for a mentor in a certain area of your life. Here are some helpful hints...

8. Listen to Dr. Jane tell a story of The Eagle and the Wren.
9. Complete journal entry.
