During one of Dr. Jane’s lectures in Sudbury, Canada, she spoke about a
nickel mine’s toxic emissions that had polluted the environment for a hundred
years. She saw photos of countryside that looked as barren as a lunar landscape.
The citizens, finally realizing that their health and the environment were at risk, decided to do something about it.
As a result, the mine has reduced its emissions by 98 percent in about 15 years.
As a symbol of hope, the citizens gave Dr. Jane a feather from one of the peregrine
falcons that nested in the area, after being locally extinct for more than 40
