Jessica Rimington is one of the founding members of the Youth Leadership
Council. While attending the 2002 Children’s Earth Summit in South
Africa, she organized a group of young people to create 1,000 origami
peace cranes. The group carefully folded the cranes from international
newsprint and on each crane wrote a commitment to the world that they
pledged to fulfill. They then presented the cranes to the United Nations
Secretary General Kofi Annan and his wife Nane. It is through youth such
as Jessica that Dr. Jane is able to maintain hope for a healthier world
for all animals and humans, for it is the young leaders who will continue
the work of Dr. Jane and her reason for hope far into the future.
