Lisa Thomas showed compassion for shelter dogs
Lisa Thomas is a remarkable individual with amazing compassion and strength.
She attended one of Dr. Jane’s talks in Johannesburg, South Africa where
she lives and was determined to start a Roots & Shoots group at her school.
Unfortunately, the staff was resistant and her peers lacked enthusiasm. So,
while still working her way over these hurdles, Lisa decided to start doing
something herself. Stray dogs are a problem in her town, and near her home is
a shelter. The dogs at the shelter live in small, smelly cages, some coming
from homes, now abandoned and heartbroken. Lisa decided she would try to bring
love to them at the end of their lives. And so once a week, Lisa goes to the
shelter and spends at least 10 minutes with each dog before the dog is put to
sleep. “The moral strength of this young woman is truly incredible –
I do not think I could do it week after week,” said Dr. Jane. As Lisa
Thomas says, “Everyone should be loved for at least 10 minutes.” |
