Two deaths that were especially tragic for Dr. Jane were those of her second husband, Derek Bryceson (pictured above) and
her mother, Vanne Goodall. She had been married to Derek only six years when he
died of cancer. Once again, Dr. Jane went to the forest to deal with her grief, loneliness,
and anger. Many years later, Dr. Jane’s mother died of natural causes. Dr. Jane grieved the
loss of the woman who was her greatest source of inspiration.
