Resilience: Painful Separation
Painful Separation

In 1974, Dr. Jane and Hugo van Lawick decided to divorce. It was a painful time and Dr. Jane felt a sense of failure and guilt. These feelings were magnified because she knew the divorce would be especially difficult on their son, Grub. It was during this trying time that Dr. Jane began to consider questions about spirituality and her purpose in the world. She found that, because of her experience in the forest, she was able to answer these questions, which eventually brought her comfort and peace.
