In the summer of 1960 at the age of 26, Jane Goodall first ventured to Gombe. Because the British authorities refused to allow a young woman into the forest on her own, Jane’s mother volunteered to join her daughter for the first five months. At last, Jane’s childhood dream was fulfilled.
